Kasserine Pass
The battle of Kasserine Pass was significant as the first large-scale meeting of American and German forces in World War II. From a distance of nearly sixty five years, we have come to accept that the great number of American casualties and crushing land-loss in this battle was due to the imbalance between the under-trained, untested and poorly-led American troops countered against the heavily reinforced Axis. Although the area where the famed battle occurred is currently a military zone and cannot be accessed by civilians, many veterans return to Tunisia to visit the land that cost them so dearly and the graves of those whose lives were lost in the fight.
