Desert Safari
The Desert Sfari will take you through the Tunisian Sahara. Adventure seekers can attempt this Desert Safari by foot, but we prefer to arrange it with our own 4WD air-conditioned luxury vehicles. All aspects of this adventure are planned well in advance. Specific customer accommodation requirements are catered for and can include luxury hotels or traditional Tunisian accommodation. This Desert Safari can be completely customized to add particular sightseeing destinations or additional excursions and activities along the journey, such as traditional Tunisian crafts, hiking or trekking stops and the world famous camel back rides in the Sahara desert.

1st day : Tozeur – Tamerza – Chebika – Tozeur
Personalized welcome by Batouta Voyages staff at Tozeur airport. After transfer to the hotel, sightseeing of Tozeur Oasis and Zoo, Dar Cherait museum & medina downtown. Dar Cherait museum: this fascinating museum, housed in a restored palace, has an extensive collection of pottery, antiques and rooms set up replicas of scenes from traditional Tunisian life, past and present. Wander around these beautiful scenes richly decorated to show the bedroom of the last bey, a palace scene, a typical kitchen and a Bedouin tent. Museum attendants, dressed as servants of the bey, add to the atmosphere. Lunch at local restaurant and proceed to Tamerza by Jeep (4WD). Chebika and Tamerza are a series of lovely mountain oases. Waterfalls and abandoned clay homes make these oases some of the most beautiful in the country. Guests enjoy an unforgettable drive by 4 WD along the winding panoramic road. Take a refreshing shower under Tamerza’s waterfall and marvel at the enormous palm trees growing from cracks in the hard, dry rock. Fifteen minutes further along the panoramic road, the more adventurous can hike back in the silent tranquility of Chebika’s balcony oasis and look out over hundreds of kilometers desert. Return to Tozeur via Ong El Jemel. Dinner and Overnight at hotel.

2nd day : Nefta – Douz
After breakfast, proceed to Douz (gateway to the sahara) via Chott El Jerid: The Chott El Jerid, a fascinating dried salt lake ceving almost 5000 sq.km, is located 45 min from Tozeur. From the narrow road through the dried lake, you are nearly certain to see the famous mirages of the Sahara. On either side of the causeway the sparkling salt crust extends far into the distance. Far from being uniform, the Chott is a continuously changing landscape. After 1’ Km, the Chott becomes sandy; and 32 km later, you reach the first of the hundreds of thousands of palm trees. Arriving to Douz, you can enjoy Camel riding through Sahara sandy Dunes.

3rd day : Douz – Ksar Ghilane
Departure for Ksar Ghilane, an exotic oasis famous for its dunes and hot water spring. Check in 4* tents Pansea developed in harmony with the surrounding environment. Silence and vastness around the camp makes for a magical and unforgettable night.

Approaching Matmata it is easy to overlook the buzzing life just underneath the surface of the earth. A few above-ground homes (including a school) indicate this nearly surreal town.
